Housatonic River
PCB Clean Up

The Housatonic River in Pittsfield, MA was contaminated with PCBs from an abandoned electrical transformer plant. Two miles of the river have been cleaned-up through the removal of soils from the riverbed and excavation of the adjacent banks from one to nine feet in depth.

Hill-Engineers, Architects, Planners, Inc. worked as the on-site construction surveyor completing initial topographic and hydrographic surveys. Hill staked cut depths for contaminant excavation, verified excavation depths, calculated volumes of material removed, and assisted with placement of clean fill and bank restoration.
